Delete your account
You do not need the app or an account to use this page.
What happens
We destroy the things that identify you and we keep the fishing record with
your name off it. In detail:
Destroyed — your name, email address, phone number, profile
photograph, payout handle, device identifier, your sign-in account, and the
internal identifier that ties any of it together. Nothing we keep afterwards
can be traced back to you by us.
Kept, with your name off it — the catch itself: the
measurement, the video, the photo and the location where it was caught, held
as anonymous data. Any tournament or challenge result stays on the
leaderboard under an anonymous handle.
Two reasons for that split. A scored competition cannot be changed after the
fact, so one competitor must not be able to erase their own entry — and the
measurements are the dataset the app is built on, which is only useful if it
is complete. Neither of those needs to know who you are.
Three things we will not pretend about

The location is kept exactly as recorded, and deleting your account
does not remove it. Public pages on this site show only a blurred
position, about a mile across — but the precise coordinate stays in
our records, with your name off it.
The honest reason is not that somebody is waiting for it: we do not
currently supply catch data to anyone outside FishCoin, and there are no
current plans to. It is that the coordinates are a large part of
what the dataset is worth — where and when fish are caught is the
useful thing about it — and we intend to make use of that, which may in
future include supplying it to fishery-management and research bodies. If
that starts, the privacy policy will say so before it
happens, and nothing supplied would carry any identifier, not even an
anonymous code number.
Your videos and photos are never supplied to anyone.

Anonymising does not change the videos or photos themselves.
Somebody is visible in about half of published clips — usually hands and
feet rather than faces, because the camera points down at the fish — and
recurring details like your boat, your deck or your gear can still connect
several catches to the same person.
Videos and photos are never deleted. What we can do
instead is blur the people in them, and you can ask for that in the box
below.

Blurring is a partial remedy, and the place it helps least is the
place you are most likely to be visible. Anything too close to the
fish or the coin has to be left exactly as it is: those two are what the
measurement is made from, and blurring near them would destroy the very
record the media is kept for. So if you were holding the fish, your
hands are right beside it and will still be visible. Hands are the
most commonly visible part of a person in these clips, which is precisely
why we would rather say this before you ask than after.
It does genuinely help elsewhere — feet on the deck, somebody in the
background, a hand somewhere else in the frame. We are not going to put a
figure on how much of a given clip survives, because nobody has measured
that yet and this page has just had one invented promise taken out of it.

It works once and expires in 24 hours. Nothing is changed until you click
it.
We give the same answer whether or not we hold an account for an address,
on purpose — otherwise this page would be a way to find out whether
somebody uses FishCoin.
From inside the app
There is also Settings → Delete my account in the
FishCoin app, which does the same thing without the email step because you
are already signed in. It also erases everything the app has stored on your
phone, which this page cannot do.
Something else
To hide a single catch rather than close your account, delete it in the app —
it disappears from your gallery and stops counting toward anything. To ask
